Hub director David Barber will lead a new lab to develop innovative, open-source AI systems to help secure the UK’s position as a global leader in AI.

Four university-led projects have been awarded a total of £400,000 by the hub to develop datasets that could help make AI systems safer, more reliable and better aligned with the real world.

New Zealand is establishing a public research organisation with a strong focus on advanced technologies. In July 2025, we welcomed New Zealand’s Science Minister to our offices at UCL’s AI Centre as part of an information gathering visit to the UK.
